Texas Lawsuit Alleges BP is Attempting to Manipulate Natural Gas Markets in America

February 9th, 2013

According to Rueters.com, a former trader at British Petroleum (BP) has filed a lawsuit for breach of contract in which he alleges the BP’s Houston-based unit, BP Energy Co, is trying to manipulate the U.S. natural gas liquids market.

Reportedly, the suit alleges that the company “created a pretext” for disciplining the plaintiff trader late last year and then fired him earlier this month. According to the plaintiff in the suit, he made over $100 million for the company over the previous three years.

Reportedly, the suit alleges that BP is trying to manipulate the natural gas liquids market by “establishing a dominant and controlling position.” However, BP has pointed out that the petition does not provide the facts which validate that claim.
